The fourth Invictus Games took place in Sydney, Australia, in October 2018 and for the first time the Games published a hardcover book of live action photography and personal stories.
I was commissioned to attend the Games and interview competitors - war veterans and service personnel from 18 countries - to uncover their stories of healing and hope. This project is one of the greatest experiences of my life.
Over 10 days, I interviewed 38 people from the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Asia. We smiled, cried, and laughed together, as men and women, young and old, revisited dark moments of the war. Mostly, their eyes beamed with joy from the friendship and support of fellow competitors and family members, who are moving forward on a path of hope together.
The Official Photography Book of The Invictus Games Sydney 2018 published in January 2019 and more than 2,000 copies were distributed globally. A copy is available in the National Library of Australia.
